How to dodge: a realistic approach [MINI-GUIDE]
A free mini-guide about how to dodge punches, kicks (and all the other striking techniques)
When we talk about facing the adversary’s action, the first thing to understand is that:
- At each level of preparation corresponds a different type of dodges we can access to
- Not always dodging is the best solution and not always it is possible (this means that we must be prepared to do many other things)
- If we face an opponent who is more or less equal to us, it is almost impossible not to be hit at least sometimes
- A good dodging capability is 9% about technique, 1% about natural reflexes and 90% about constant training
- Training to learn to dodge makes sense only in the context of a serious martial path; the beginner / not practitioner alternative is the covering (it is 10 times better to get hit in a controlled way than thinking to be able to dodge and get hit in full on vulnerable targets)
- In the particular case of self-defense, the best techniques to avoid getting punched are prevention, negotiation and escape (read Personal defense: the S.A.F.E. method)
- …
Note – This article has been asked by one of our Core Course practitioners on Patreon (see how to attend our home study classes here Learn Kung Fu online: a beginner-to-expert course).
Said this, we have created this mini-guide to share when, how and why we should dodge.
