Softness and hardness, flexibility and rigidity
The 6DKF is one of the few martial arts that choose to use within a single fighting style:
- Softness (dispersed energy)
- Hardness (directed energy)
- Flexibility (reflected energy)
- Rigidity (absorbed energy)
According to different situations of attack / defense it can in fact be more or less useful choose to use hard or rigid movements rather than soft or flexible.
Here are some sample circumstances:
- Depending on the fighting scenario
- Depending on the mental and physical characteristics of opponents
- Depending on the martial level of our opponents (in relation to our)
- Depending on the objectives we want to achieve
- Depending on our position in relation to our opponents
- Depending on the effectiveness of our fighting style in the current context
- Depending on how long we’ll have to fight
- Depending on the number of opponents
- Depending on our current psychophysical conditions
- Depending on how much we may venture to attract public attention
- Depending on what and how many weapons are involved in the clash
- …
The idea is to adapt to any situation to surprise opponents with choices / changes of style abrupt and seamless; here are some examples (more about these later):
- If the opponent is waiting for stiffness we offer flexibility or softness
- If the opponent is accustomed to our softness let’s surprise him with the flexibility
- If we can not move the opponent we will use the hardness to make useless his strength
- If we can not fight the force, we let it slip away with the softness
- If the opponent is sensitive to our rigid movements, with those soft let’s deceive him
- …
