How to face multiple opponents: movement and distance
As long as we can keep the right distance and impose our rhythm to the opponents we will have at least one chance to prevail. So let’s see some insights on how to manage positions, distance and movement.
The distance from opponents and from general dangers:
- Let’s hold our opponents (ideally) at a distance of a straight leg and let’s move back and forth covering this space quickly
- Let’s use our spatial intelligence to store directions of motion and imagine the movements of who / what we do not see (eg. behind us)
- Let’s create a simple mind map that allows us to strategically manage the fighting scenario as if we saw it from above
- We have to maintain a minimum distance from obstacles behind us (furniture, walls, etc.) of about a straight leg
- We have to use all of our senses, let’s focus on the environment and on opponents as if they were a single body to deal
- Wherever is possible we have to seek a weapon that allows us to fight keeping the maximum distance from our aggressors (eg. a metal pipe)
- If we choose to use an improper weapon we must use it with speed and precision or the aggressors will turn it against us (more on this argument in the next articles)
Our position and our movement:
- Let’s walk circularly so as to force our opponents to take uncomfortable ways and to prevent them from charging effectively their shots
- Let’s put all opponents, as far as possible, within our field of view, we have to use peripheral vision to see everything but not focusing on anything
- Our movement must aim to describe circles that enclose our opponents (where the scenario allows it)
- As in a spiral, if we are prevailing our circular motion shall be closer to the opponents, if we are oppressed it must be widen
- We always must change, reasonably, direction of movement and rhythm of fight (slow, fast, static)
- We know our limits, we have to economize/recover our energy before it ends (but never showing weakness)
- We do not have to choose always the same paths and movements, we have to prevent opponents from recognizing our rhythm of fight
In a fight against multiple opponents, the space management is for us, what for a bird is the flying, a bird that cannot fly is an dead bird.
