Forget everything you know about multiple opponents fighting [MINI-GUIDE]
A free mini-guide about multiple opponents fighting
In pure terms of self-defense, even the mere fact of being attacked by a single aggressor automatically puts us at a disadvantage and the reasons are 2:
- The first is that if he / she has chosen us, he / she is probably inclined to think that he / she can easily beat us (and this unfortunately is true much more often than we can imagine)
- The second is that he / she has chosen how and when to attack us, another huge advantage
Note – This article has been asked by one of our Core Course practitioners on Patreon (see how to attend our home study classes here Learn Kung Fu online: a beginner-to-expert course).
With these (frequent) premises (read Why and when self-defense does not work), it is automatically clear that, in dealing with more than one person, the idea of prevailing is almost absent: in 90% of cases we are talking about surviving just enough to getaway.
A note by Master Kongling – Why this guide? Because even if only to think to address more adversaries at the same time is an absurd thought, in real life, it is not an uncommon situation at all. The point is that, in 6 Dragons Kung Fu, we prefer, instead of giving no responses (ignoring the problem): to make honest premises, to be clear and to try to offer a solution. Even if the possibilities are few, when there is no choice, being prepared for a context is always better than knowing nothing. Having said that, it is ridiculous to point out that in such situations combat must be avoided at all costs (read also Best martial arts for self-defense).
A rational base of self-defense
Before starting it is important to understand the core concepts of our self-defense method:
- Personal defense: the S.A.F.E. method – To prevail against more than one opponent is almost impossible, let’s start to see how to behave in a critical context (the general path)
- Why martial arts do not work: 5 reasons – Without the correct daily preparation, martial arts are totally useless
- Self-defense and mental preparation: what they do not tell you – What really happens when we are in a fight or flight context
- Martial arts: movies VS reality, 7 differences – In terms of multimple opponents, what happen in cinematic fiction has no match in real life (in most cases the choreographies leave some of the attackers waiting, absolutely absurd)
